Medical Cannabis Clinics Thailand

Medical Cannabis Clinics Thailand

In recent years, Thailand has made strong steps towards marijuana legalization. In 2018, it became the first Southeast country to approve the use of marijuana for medical purposes.

The government’s Narcotics Bill legislature articulated that medical marijuana can only be grown and researched under the jurisdiction of reputable health organizations and one must have a medical prescription to purchase marijuana products.

Medical marijuana can only be used for medical-related purposes and not for recreation in any way. The Thailand Government has repercussions in place for illegal marijuana users.

THC vs CBD: What’s the Difference?

THC and CBD are the two core components of a cannabis plant. The distinction between THC and CBD lies in that THC is the substance that affects one’s mental state and causes a “high.” When one thinks of marijuana, the psychoactive THC is what is most familiar.

There are other medical cannabis options besides THC though. CBD can be just as effective in certain scenarios. Products composed of the CBD cannabis component will still allow one to be in a relaxed state, but he or she will not get “high.” CBD is often referred to as a hemp product, rather than a marijuana product.

According to Cedars Sinai, CBD “is most commonly used to treat chronic pain, anxiety, inflammation, and insomnia.” CBD is legal in Thailand and does not require a prescription to purchase.

THC and CBD offer different mental and bodily experiences but can both be very helpful in treating medical conditions. A doctor who specializes in cannabis usage can provide guidance on what product would be more beneficial for a certain ailment or condition.

Effects of Medical Marijuana

People with approved conditions or diseases now have access to medical marijuana (THC-based products) in Thailand. The positive effects of medical marijuana have been well researched. According to Talbott Recovery, “in 2018, 67% of doctors were in favor of using marijuana for medical purposes… Marijuana can relieve symptoms associated with HIV/AIDS, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, Crohn’s disease, epilepsy, and glaucoma.”

Thailand medical marijuana products that are available to purchase with a medical prescription are Thailand Food and Drug Administration approved.

One of the great benefits of medical marijuana is its ability to alleviate and limit bodily pain and discomfort. There are many conditions or health challenges where medical marijuana is an approved treatment in Thailand.

Cannabis Clinics

A cannabis clinic is an approved medical institution that specializes in prescribing medical marijuana as a treatment for health ailments. These clinics have a diverse support team including practitioners, counselors, and marijuana educators. Thailand Food and Drug Administration Registration

In Thailand to officially “legalize” one’s medical marijuana products, he or she must register said products under the jurisdiction of the Thailand FDA.

To successfully do this, one must have an ID, medical certificate/prescription, and a duty filled application form. Medical marijuana users can visit the Thailand FDA’s Bangkok office to register. For people who live in other areas of Thailand, they can go to the Thailand provincial health office to register.

Once the Thailand FDA approves one’s medical marijuana products, they are officially seen as legal in the eyes of the law.

Medical Marijuana and Tourism

If a tourist comes into Thailand with a supply of medical marijuana, he or she must have sufficient paperwork and documentation. Additionally, he or she will need to inform the Thailand Public Ministry of Health through the filling out of a document that declares the amount of marijuana brought into the country. Without proof of a medical prescription, the Thailand government will penalize the tourist including confiscating his or her medical marijuana supply.

Legalization and the Future of Marijuana in Thailand In January of 2022, marijuana was officially removed from Thailand’s illicit drug list. As a result, Thailand citizens now have the ability to grow cannabis and marijuana if registered with the government. Marijuana cannot be used for recreational purposes without acquiring further permits and government documentation. The goal of Thailand’s 2022 legislature is partially to make medical marijuana easier to get and more accessible.
