Cannabis in Thailand

Jump to navigationJump to search

In Thailand, cannabis, known by the name ganja (ThaiกัญชาRTGSkancha) is decriminalized in 2022. Medical use has been made legal since 2018.[1] Since 2022, cannabis plant is fully removed from narcotic list. Possession, cultivation, distribution, consumption, and sales of cannabis plant parts are legal, especially for personal use. However, license and permission may be required in some circumstances. Import and export of cannabis are still highly regulated. Recreational use of cannabis products is discouraged but legal if the THC content is below 0.2% by weight. However, there is no restriction on THC for the consumption of cannabis plant parts. Not according to the government (The government said it is still illegal to grow, possess and consume cannabis products containing more than 0.2 percent of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the primary compound that makes people high. Cannabis smoking is legal for private use but prohibited in public area.[2][3]

Cannabis appears to have been introduced to Thailand from India, with the similarity of the Thai name to the Indian term ganja cited as evidence.[4] Cannabis has historically been used in Southeast Asia as an ingredient, a kitchen condiment, a medicine, and a source of fiber.[5] Laborers were known to use it as a muscle relaxer. It was reportedly used to ease women's labor pains.[6]

On 8 May 2022, Thailand's health minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced in a Facebook post that the government will distribute one million free cannabis plants to households across the country, starting June 9. The move is said to be a step further into Thailand's plan to use cannabis as a cash crop.

Legalization and decriminalization[edit]

The possession, cultivation, sales, and use of cannabis were criminalized by the Cannabis Act 2477 BE (1935)[9] and again by the Narcotics Act 2522 BE (1979).[10] In 2018, Thailand became the first Asian nation to legalize medical cannabis.[11][12] Cannabis clinic was available as early as April 2022.[13] Starting from June 9, 2022, all cannabis plant parts was entirely removed from the narcotic list decriminalizing all cannabis-related crime.[2] Around 4,200 prisoners were released as a result of the decriminalization on the same day.[14]

Regulations[edit]

Consumption[edit]

There is no restriction on the consumption of cannabis plant parts. Not true according to the government. The government said it is still illegal to grow, possess and consume cannabis products containing more than 0.2 percent of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the primary compound that makes people high. However, cannabis extracts with THC higher than 0.2% and cannabis seed extracts are still on the narcotic list. Consumption of these extracts is only reserved for medical use under prescription.[2][3] Cannabis smoking is legal for personal use in private area but not encouraged by the government and is prohibited in public areas by the Public Health Act 2535 BE (1992) with the fine up to 25,000 Baht (~700 USD) or the imprisonment up to 3 months.[14]

Cultivation[edit]

Households will be able to cultivate up to six cannabis pot plants at home if they register with authorities, and companies can also farm the plant with a permit. The specific law regulating cannabis is still pending in Thai parliament as of June 2022. However, the government urges people to register their cannabis plantation on the website or the application "Plookganja" (meaning "Let's grow cannabis") in case that the future cannabis law may require the license.[15]

Supply[edit]

Thai law essentially excludes all foreign companies as well as foreign majority companies incorporated in Thailand from producing, selling, importing, exporting, and processing cannabis. The move has been viewed as an effort to protect local companies from the onslaught of highly resourceful and modern technology equipped foreign actors.[16]

Distribution[edit]

On 11 May, Thailand's first two full-time clinics dispensing cannabis oil for medical treatment were inaugurated. The move is in line with the government's intentions to promote licensed use of medical marijuana to address various health conditions. These two clinics are an addition to 25 part-time clinics that are operating since the legalization of the drug under the new legislation.[17] If this experience produces promising results, the government is all set to open two more clinics as a part of a planned nationwide network of marijuana clinics. [18] The people who were using illegal expensive medical marijuana from underground suppliers are most likely to benefit from it. In addition, the FDA has approved all hospitals of the Public Health Ministry to prescribe medical cannabis to people with approved medical conditions.[19][20]

Weedmaps and the Cannabis strain Thai stick

Artisan Canna Cigars was created by my partner Nathan and myself, only after acknowledging how much we could accomplish by working together within this amazing way of life. It developed into something much greater than we could’ve anticipated or imagined.

A year and over 50 collaborations later, we’ve developed a franchising company. I’ve gotten to meet incredibly talented and wonderful friends along the way, much like the remarkable @h1tmanlou. His skill trait is something of wonders, and we will always be building our craft and positivity to its fullest potential.

The strain “Thai Stick,” grown by the hill tribes in northeast Thailand, was some of the highest quality marijuana found in the ’70s. The hill tribes of Thailand generally used silk line to hold “Thai buds” together around either bamboo sticks or hemp stalks. I’ve heard many incredible stories from various veterans, my father included, who engulfed himself within this rich untold history. I would hear stories of such sensational highs about these opium dipped thai sticks.

In the book Thai Stick: Surfers, Scammers, and the Untold Story of the Marijuana Trade, Peter Maguire and Mike Ritter explain how surfers who were declared “Draft Dodgers,” were moving shipments of Thai sticks from farms in northeast Thailand to the states.

These guys ended up creating one of the most complex smuggling channels in history, not to mention opening the states up to one trippy ride!

The Modernization of the Thai Stick

To me, it seemed impossible for this particular craft to have completely fallen out, even with the taboo that comes along with it. I then discovered a character known as Afgoo_head, who had been lingering on the social media site Instagram for a while creating in-depth posts regarding basic work with this medicine, along with the day-to-day fun that comes along with cannabis exploration.

Using the basic method of applying cannabis to a stick, he was able to transition this old school trade to the clean and all natural pure cannabis cigars you can find today.

The moment he posted a description and image of his first attempt, I was hooked! I engulfed myself within this way of life and spent hours discussing techniques with Afgoo_head.

For several weeks and months, we had conversations that opened new doors, within vastly different realms I had not been mentally exposed to yet. From the detailed personal descriptions he graced me with, to my first few failed attempts at forming it, I was able to truly educate and mold my own style in this new craft.

Grow information Wild Thailand is a pure sativa strain, growing up to nearly 10 feet tall in outdoor gardens. As such, it requires a more extended flowering period and is ready for harvest in 70 days indoors or early November in outdoor gardens. Thanks to its landrace genetics, Wild Thailand is resilient to most pests and diseases. It prefers a more humid, warmer climate than most cultivars. Seeds for Wild Thailand are commercially available.

As he proceeded on with creating specialty designs and multiple stick crafts, I took in every detail and began to understand my own capabilities. Through constant effort and intense amounts of time, I began to notice a flow or rhythm to my own art form.

The most important thing I learned was to not put a cap on my abilities.

Only he and I, at that point, had formed cannabis cigars using this technique and as to how far this might extend around us, I was personally not prepared for.

Each craft is vacuum-sealed after each leaf layer is applied, which allows the craft to solidify at a quicker rate. This layering process is repeated three times within a two and half week period.

By giving each stick time to compress and solidify even further, you allow each craft to enter itself through an infusing process. At this point, the oils and concentrates begin to seep within the hardened stone-like cannabis cigar, which allows each person to feel an almost indescribable high.

The most frequent statement I’ve heard people say when inhaling the rich smoke is, “I feel like I’m high for the first time again!”

The effects that these formations have on the body and mind are a powerful thing; in just a few hits, you’ve open yourself up to even more healing capabilities—and in a completely natural way.

We all hurt and heal for different reasons, but pain still remains with us all. For any person who is remotely interested in cannabis and its many uses, be sure to follow up soon for more in-depth blogs and summaries.

Wild Thailand is, as expected, descended from a landrace strain from the Ko Chang region of Thailand. A rare pure sativa, Wild ,Thai, features, fluffy, acid-green buds with spindly orange hairs and sparkling white trichomes. Online sources report that Wild Thailand blends earth and berry aromas with a layer of sweetness. Its smoke features a matching sugary taste mixed with fresh berries and wet dirt.

Thai is a name given to most landrace strains that are derived from an unspecified region in Thailand. Thought to be pure Sativa cultivars, Thai strains first gained fame as being the flower of choice for Thai sticks in the 1960s and 1970s due to the long, impressive size of its buds. Consumers would take the stickiest flowers, skewer them on stems, and tie them in place with string, usually referred to as “Rasta Hair.”

Many seed banks carry either pure Thai seeds or their own in-house phenotypes. Most contain a citrusy flavor, likely due to higher limonene content, while consumers favor the flower for its pleasing taste and reported energizing effects.

Grow information

Thai landrace cultivars are highly prized for their stable genetics, short flowering cycle, and immense yields. When grown outdoors, the strains have plenty of room to spread out their roots and develop into massive plants. Thai strains typically reach full maturity in late November when grown outdoors and 9-10 weeks inside. Some odor control measures may be necessary, as Thai landraces produce pungent smells where they take root. Available Form: Seeds only

Kratom vendors in Thailand profit during COVID-19 outbreak

Kratom vendors in Thailand profit during COVID-19 outbreak

Residents of Hat Yai district of Songkhla are looking for fresh Kratom leaves to consume and sell while some vendors boil the leaves and make Kratom herbal drinks to sell by the bottle, both at stores and online.

A newly trending economic crop is nothing other than Kratom since it was removed from the list of illegal drugs. Members of the public can now grow, possess, trade, and consume at will. People in many areas currently earn useful income selling Kratom, at a time of widespread unemployment due to COVID-19.

Residents of Hat Yai district of Songkhla are looking for fresh Kratom leaves to consume and sell. Some vendors boil the leaves and make Kratom herbal drinks to sell by the bottle, both at stores and online. Most of the sellers say they were unemployed due to the impact of Covid-19 and by selling Kratom, they now have a job. According to the sellers, 1 kilogram of Kratom leaves can bring a profit of 100 – 200 baht.

However, they tend to agree that there should be an authority to control the trade in Kratom, as there are concerns about the price as more people are now selling Kratom.

At the same time in Bangkok, it was reported that some shops in Din Daeng market that now specialize in selling Kratom leaves, are being overwhelmed by customers every day.

One of the sellers said only some customers buy Kratom leaves to resell, while most of them buy the leaves for their own consumption as Kratom leaves have medicinal properties.

In addition, the majority of Kratom leaves are from the southern region where almost every province grows the plant. Besides being available at storefronts, people can also lookup social media platforms and online stores for Kratom products. (NNT)

Top 10 List: Where to Buy Kratom OnlinE

Top 10 List: Where to Buy Kratom Online

CBD is a well-known dietary supplement that is widely available. You can find it just about anywhere today, as online vendors are riding their wave of popularity. You can buy Ivermectin in Thailand easily too, but what about lesser-known supplements like kratom? This health supplement, made from the dried leaves of a tropical tree that grows in Indonesia, has a small but loyal community. Its users swear by its anti-anxiety, and stimulating effects.

While it’s lacking in peer-reviewed studies, it is still popular and many people say that it has helped them with mental health problems including anxiety and PTSD. However, despite the loyalty of its base of users, it is not widely available. So where do you buy kratom online? Try this top 10 list, and then decide on your favourite vendor.
1. Grown Selection

GrownSelection.com is a popular new website that sells kratom online. They carry all-natural kratom powder, with no additives or pesticides. They also test their kratom powder for heavy metals. Grown Selection carries all of the major kratom strains, including red, green, and white-veined varieties.

They also carry yellow kratom, named for the yellowish tinge that the powder takes on from a special pasteurization process, designed to maximize alkaloid content. In addition, they sell CBD oil and other CBD products, akuamma seeds, and essential oils.

This makes Grown Selection a great one-stop-shop for people who want to try different holistic remedies to get through whatever ails them. Grown Selection’s most popular product is its kratom sample pack, which contains ten varieties of kratom, including powders and crushed leaves. They accept credit cards, ACH, and bitcoin payments.
2. GRH Kratom

GRHKratom.com is a popular website that offers smaller doses of kratom for people just starting out. Their website filters kratom by effect, region, strain, type, and vein. GRH Kratom also offers kratom in pre-packed capsules, which makes dosages more precise. They also have a quiz that is designed to simplify the selection process for new kratom users.
3. PA Botanicals

PABotanicals.com has a number of related products for sale, including kratom, CBD, kava, and akuamma. The kratom they sell includes powder, capsules, extract and tinctures. They also sell kratom in bulk quantities. Note that as of this review, the navigation on the website is a bit confusing, particularly the comparison feature. However, they have great images and list their lab results.

4. Earth Kratom

EarthKratom.com is a kratom-focused website. They offer kratom powders, capsules, and extracts in a variety of strains including green, red, and white. As with the other kratom websites, they include popular varieties like Green Maeng Da and White Borneo. Earth Kratom accepts credit card payments, though it seems unusual that users are able to enter their credit card numbers directly into the payment form, using a processor that appears to be based in Portugal. It is against Visa and Mastercard’s terms of service to process kratom transactions. Most companies use a workaround where they sell users digital tokens, which are applied to their orders, rather than direct transactions. There may be risks associated with these kinds of purchases. That said, Earth Kratom offers a wide selection.

5. Kratom Gardens

KratomGardens.com claims to be Europe’s most trusted kratom shop. As their tagline suggests, they ship a variety of kratom strains to Europe. They also offer free delivery on orders of over 60 euros. One of this company’s strengths is their variety of samples and combinations. Payments are accepted in cash and bank transfers.
